Objectives

The purpose of the expert visit and accompanying report was to provide actionable recommendations for improving the management of Ecuador’s coastal system. Key recommendations focused on:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of coastal processes based on robust scientific knowledge to enable sustainable investments in coastal erosion prevention.

  • Strengthening institutional management of the beach zone, including stakeholder participation, to empower the Ecuadorian government to proactively manage the coastal system and reduce erosion risks sustainably.
